BLIP operations 01-11-11 Status – running at ~117.5MeV BLIP weekly average beam increased to 90.5µA. Reliability very good with total operating time equal to 163.6 hours. Operations issues Detected a leak of Ga target, the second one in a row. Both apparently failed due to a pin hole. This is an identical design to targets used successfully last year at beam current levels as high or higher. Cause unknown and will be investigated. An attempt to replace the target holder with a weak door spring during last week’s maintenance day failed. It was not possible to engage a small , hard to see screw with an allen wrench held by manipulator. A special alignment fixture will be designed and built. Final design review of new target holder was completed. A special 24 hour research irradiation at 140 MeV to develop Cu-67 ended today at 12:30PM. Processing, assay, and analysis will take the next few days.
