  1. Supernatural

  2. For our A2 Media Production the genre which we will be focusing on is the Supernatural genre. We chose this as it is an intriguing and unique genre which not many institutions produce within today's film industry. Initially we did not have any ideas on how to subvert the genre however after looking at each aspect of the genre we were able to think of ways of subversion.

  3. Normally supernatural creatures are seen to be living amongst humans however we could subvert this by having a village which is inhibited by supernatural creatures only. This would also lead to another subversion as most super natural films have a convention of hidden identity however as they would be in a enclosed village there will be no need to restrict their identitities.

  4. Vampires As there have been many films in recent years which relate to Vampires, we had to think of completely unique subversions in order to maintain originally for our production. One of the main ideas which we relate to vampires is that they are not allowed in sunlight so our subversion would be that the sunlight does not effect them or something would enable them to walk in sunlight. Another subversion would be that they are not immortal as most Films/Books/TV programmes associate vampires with immortality.

  5. Ghosts Ghosts are more than likely associated with horror films rather than supernatural films so including them can be a subversion in itself. However a specific subversion to ghosts could be that they take human form rather than shadows or even to the extent that they can switch between the two forms at will.

  6. Mind Control Mind control is normally portrayed to be used to do immoral things such as killing other people or carry out acts of terror. For example in twilight mind control is used as a act of torture, however we could subvert this stereotype by not making them able to control people actions however could make them see things such as there future if they were to commit a certain act.Also mind control can not only be changing physical behaviour but can also change the persons emotions etc.

  7. Werewolf's Usually films portray werewolves as evil characters and are usually shown to be murdering or injuring someone physically. A subversion of the werewolf genre could be that they have the power of when to transform or not transform at all as usually they transform at night only during a full moon. Another subversion could be that as Werewolves are typically “burned by the touch of silver”, however we could make them completely immortal so they can not be harmed by silver.

  8. Fairies A stereotype of a fairy is a pretty female with wings, this could be subverted by having a male character who isn’t good looking without wings.Another subversion could be that the fairy could be a villain rather than a hero.A Fairy is also often associated with magical powers so we could make a fairy without magical abilities.
