Some years ago an engineer lost his life in the desert when journey management might have saved him. He misinterpreted instructions, took a wrong turn and compounded the problem by continuing to drive when already lost. Eventually running out of fuel, he abandoned his vehicle and tried to continue on foot. Because no-one knew where he was going, he was not reported as missing for some hours. The search party found his vehicle relatively easily, but when they eventually found him it was too late. HALLIBURTON JOURNEY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM … it could save your life Journey Management made simple ... - tell the dispatcher when you leave, where you’re going and when you expect to arrive - on arrival, call your dispatcher to confirm you’ve arrived safely - do the same on your return journey This also works for personal travel - it only takes a few moments to tell your family or a friend at home or at your destination : when you leave, where you’re going and when you expect to arrive. It puts everyone’s mind at ease.
BUCKLE UP EVERY TRIP ASK Journey Management Tips FATIGUE KILLS … Are you ready for your trip? Check ... • tyres (as well as being a safety hazard, under-inflated tyres can waste up to 5% of your fuel) • water • fuel
PRE-FLIGHT JOURNEY MANAGEMENT • tell someone at your destination your plans … arrange meet & greet if necessary • don’t rely on others - check your tickets and itinerary before you go to the airport • tell the dispatcher/receptionist your travel plans and contact details • tell the dispatcher when you arrive back in country … especially if your plans change and you arrive back earlier or later than planned JOURNEY MANAGEMENT FOR AIR TRAVEL AVOID STRESS check-in on time - most airports recommend at least 2-3 hours for international flights look at your boarding pass before you leave the check-in desk - it’s not unheard of for passengers to be booked onto the wrong flight do not attempt to carry unauthorised objects in your luggage (we all know what they are!) don’t carry packages for someone else unless you have seen them pack it lock and label your bags don’t leave your bag unattended, or look after bags for someone else
ARRIVE REFRESHED … during the flight - don’t get dehydrated - drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine (remember that fizzy drinks contain caffeine) - choose the light menu option - avoid Deep Vein Thrombosis (economy class syndrome) by walking around, or doing the recommended in-flight exercises (look in the airline magazine for tips) HEALTHY TRAVEL AVOIDING JET LAG … • Use flying time to adjust - change your watch to your destination time zone - eat, drink and sleep in your destination time zone • On arrival - if arriving at night - take a shower and go to bed at the right time - avoid caffeine drinks that will keep you awake - if arriving in daylight - go for a walk, energise yourself and try to stay awake until the normal sleep time
