Semantics • Every language has its syntax and semantics • Syntax is the study of grammar (how to say something) • Semantics is the study of meaning (behind what you say) • Why is semantics exploited in MATCH • To use knowledge, skill and competence elements as a concrete (practical) “harmonization” means, by referring to European tools (EQF, Europass) • To let LO-MATCH understand the meaning behind offer and demand descriptions by job seekers and employers
Two-step learning outcomes annotation • Assigning categories • Identifying knowledge elements • Identifying verbs acting on knowledge (i.e. putting knowledge into action, through a skill) • Identifying context components, i.e. characterizing a competence • Assigning definitions • Choosing among those suggested by the platform • By defining new ones and linking them to the existing ontological structure
