    16. Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

    17. Acts 2:3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

    18. Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Acts 2:4 NASB And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words]. Acts 2:4 AMP

    19. Acts 2:5-13 5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, " Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

    20. 8 "And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? 9 "Parthians (NE of Jerusalem in the Iranian province of Khorasan) and Medes (Also in modern day Iran) and Elamites, (Southern Iran) and residents of Mesopotamia, (was a country between Tigris and Euphrates rivers now modern Iraq)

    21. Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, (districts in Asia Minor to the N/NW) Egypt (same as modern Egypt) and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, (N. Africa just west of Egypt)

    22. and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans (From the Island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea) and Arabs (from the desert like peninsula SW of Israel)

    23. --we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."

    27. There are 2 Types of Tongues If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1 NASU

    28. The gifts are for ministry 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

    29. 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

    30. 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

    32. Tongues for personal edification 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

    33. 4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.

    34. Paul Spoke in Tongues more than everyone 1 Corinthians 14:18-19 AMP 18 I thank God that I speak in [strange] tongues (languages) more than any of you or all of you put together; 19 Nevertheless, in public worship, I would rather say five words with my understanding and intelligently in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a [strange] tongue (language).

    35. Acts 2:12-13 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 But others were mocking and saying, " They are full of sweet wine."

    36. Acts 2:14-21 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

    37. 17 "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

    38. 19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
