What is Down Syndrome? • A special innate condition • …and not a result of parent’s mistakes!(Spivey, 2006) • Associated with chromosomes • Three types:Trisomy(%95), Transcolation(%2-3), Mosaic(%1-2) [NDSS]
Diagnosis..and may be Treatment? • Learning problems (Cunningham, 2006) • Physical Differences • Not Cure.. But?
Physical,Cognitive and Social Problems/Differences • Flexible joints • Happy attitudes, playfullness • Emotions for everyone • Flatter face, almond-shaped eye,soft muscular tissues etc.

Statistics • 1 baby in 800 (Spivey, 2006) • 100.000 in Turkey • 50% have heart defect • 50% hearing loss (Marder&Dennis, 2001) • 10% congenitial malformations • More risk for the pregnant older than 35
