  3. Details Mount Lamington is a stratovolcano with a 560m tall dome with pyroclastic flows. Mount Lamington is in Papua New Guinea, east of Kokoda and north-west of Port Moresby.

  4. 1951 Eruption At the 15th of January, ash plumes and seismic activities were seen coming from Mount Lamington then on the 18th the volcano started to erupt. 3 days later on the 21th Mount Lamington explosively erupted and heavily damaged an area of 250 km2 and people 14km away were either killed by the blast or burned to death. The kinetic force from the blast was so strong that a jeep got impaled on tree trunks.

  5. The kinetic force from the blast was so strong that a jeep got impaled on tree trunks (See slide 3 for photo). But this damage has been said to be due to turbulence more than the velocity, more evidence of this is a flagpole at Higaturuhospital.

  6. The velocity of the force was said to be 98 meters a second and the pressure 560 kilograms per square meter. Even though the force was high, it was inconsistent, while some trees were destroyed, some others weren’t even charred. The temperature was said to be 200 degrees for around 1 or 2 minutes.
