  1. Interactive Notebooks Mrs. Tucker’s Class English, Science, and Math

  2. What is an Interactive Notebook (INBK)? • A working portfolio – all work in one spot • Personalized textbook that the students create • Students take responsibility • Strengthens learning through increased student participation

  3. Supplies • Spiral Notebook (70-100 pages) • Colored pencils or crayons - - NO MARKERS • Glue sticks • Red pen, blue/black pen, pencil

  4. Rubric Students will be graded on the following: • Organization/neatness • Class work/thoroughness • Creativity… use of colors, graphics, designs

  5. How does the INBK work? The notebook uses both the left and right hemispheres of the brain to help students sort, categorize, and be creative with the knowledge they are acquiring. This process helps students “own” the knowledge they are taking in and giving them the responsibility of learning.

  6. Left Side Left Side items show the students understanding of information. This is the students chance to REFLECT, put it into their own words or design. CREATIVITY IS ENCOURAGED!!! OUTPUT Right Side Right Side is for information received from lecture, notes, reading. This side is STRUCTURED by the teacher. TESTABLE ITEMS!!! INPUT Left side – Right side Orientation

  7. Examples of RIGHT side work • This side “BELONGS” to Mrs. Tucker and the text. • Notes • Vocabulary • Worksheets • Sample problems • Graphic organizers TESTABLE INFORMATION

  8. Examples of LEFT side work • This is “YOUR WAY” of understanding the material…it belongs to YOU!!! • Songs, poems, raps • Graphic organizers • Cartoons/sketches • Journals • Warm-ups • Charts • Your words…questions & answers TIME FOR CREATIVITY!

  9. Responsibilities • When absent you must make-up the work • Use Mrs. Tucker’s Master Copy when fixing, correcting, or adding information. • Keep an accurate table of contents • Pay attention and follow directions • Date every assignment YOU CAN DO IT!

  10. Cover: author’s page…create a collage of pictures, words, items that express favorites, who you are Cover page: create a colorful page that has the title of the course, and a few concepts that go along with the subject area Table of contents: pages #1-4, a running log of work in your IBNK Course objectives: standard course of study Classroom syllabus: important rules, policies, and responsibilities Important charts, concepts and formulas INBK Set Up
