ORTH / ORTHO comes from orthos, the Greek word for “straight,” “right,” or “true” orthodontics – a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment and correction of crooked teeth and other irregularities
orthodox – • holding established beliefs, especially in religion • conforming to established rules or traditions; conventional
orthopedics – the correction or prevention of deformities of the skeleton
orthography – (1) the spelling of words according to standard usage (2) the part of language study concerned with letters and spelling
RECT comes from the Latin word rectus, which means “straight” or “right” rectitude – • moral integrity • correctness of procedure
rectify – • to set right; remedy • to correct by removing errors; revise
rectilinear – • moving in or forming a straight line • having many straight lines
rector – (1) a clergyman in charge of a church or parish (2) the head of a university or school
