  2. Introduction • Born: December 5,1782,in Kinderhook, NY • Died: Died in Kinderhook July 24, 1862 • Elected: Took office in March 1837 when 55 • Political Party: Democrat • Interesting Fact: Spent most time in Europe before retiring

  3. Early Life • One out of five children • Also had two half brothers and one half sister • Loved living on a farm • Enjoyed going fishing and the theater

  4. Family/Education • Did not go to school and not educated • He only learned about the law and so on • Got married to Hannah Hoes on Feb 21, 1807 • On 1808 he had son’s named Abraham , John, Martin Jr. and Smith

  5. The Election • He ran against William Harrison, Daniel Webster, and Hugh L. White. • He won the election on March 4, 1837 • He chose Richard M. Johnson for vice president

  6. Significant Events • In 1837 panic began banks ran out of money jobs got lost and more. • No money meant no homes no food and stuff to survive

  7. Life Accomplishments • Being president was a big thing for him in his life and it was a big accomplishment.

  8. Facts • Was the 8th president. • Had no education. • Was the N.Y. governor in 1829. • His grave is in Washington DC.
