  1. Ribosome BY: Clifian Dixon & Ravi Bhatt

  2. Location in the cell • Ribosomes are mainly found bound to the endoplasmic reticulum and the nuclear envelope, as well as freely scattered throughout the cytoplasm, depending upon whether the cell is plant, animal, or bacteria. • How this is related to a factory is…

  3. Structure • Ribosomes are tiny particles • It is composed of both proteins and RNA • Ribosomes have a tertiary structure. • complex structure • Rough surface

  4. Functions of Ribosome • Ribosome's are the location of amino-acid assembly within the cell ;Therefore, Ribosome's plays a very important role in protein synthesis, that is they receive and translate genetic instructions for the formation of specific proteins • Without the ribosome's the message would not be read, thus proteins could not be produced. • The more Ribosomes within a given cell, the more protein production there is within the cell

  5. Functions Cont. Ribosome's Function in P.S. • Eukaryote ribosome's are produced and assembled in the nucleolus. Ribosomal proteins enter the nucleolus and combine with the four rRNA strands to create the two ribosomal subunits that will make up the completed ribosome • Eukaryote ribosome's are produced and assembled in the nucleolus. Ribosomal proteins enter the nucleolus and combine with the four rRNA strands to create the two ribosomal subunits (one small and one large) that will make up the completed ribosome.

  6. Cells that have Ribosomes • cytoplasm • endoplasmic reticulum. • eukaryotic cells:60-S/ 40-S subunits • Prokaryotic:50-S and 30-S subunits • Bacteria cells • Animal cells • Plant cells
