CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CLINICS IN INDIA & USA: • 17 Clinics in Rural India • 5 Clinics in USA • Latest Clinic in Hartford, CT ~ opened on October 1st.
CHARITABLE FOUNDATION • Thousands of people over the years have been treated at these clinics. • Goal is to have atleast one clinic in every State of India
CHARITABLE FOUNDATION • Partnered with NAANDI Foundation in India • Adopt a Village Campaign to provide safe drinking water
CHARITABLE WORK • Our Medical School Alumni are involved in services in both urban & rural India • On an individual basis Doctors have given their time & money
RESEARCH PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVES
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) • Implementing a pilot project in primary healthcare by AAPI in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Bihar • Emergency Medical Services initially in major cities
AAPI-MS University: Karakhadi Project • Prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease • Role of life style modification in prevention of these diseases • Looked at food habits, income, exercise and checked blood sugar, BP, weight, height, waist and hip measurements • Prevalence of diabetes was about 6-8, high BP in 22 % of the people
AAPI-MS University Project (cont)… • This study raised a very important question on access to care in the villages • AAPI has a planned pilot project for Gujarat • Take one village per district and train a person from this village • This may become a model of health care access in the villages AAPI’s NEXT PROJECT as a PILOT in GUJARAT

Areas of Concern: • Non availability in Residency programs for Indian Medical Graduates • Unfair practices on Indian Physicians
Actions implemented: • The Externship program in Oklahoma has been very successful • Planning to have similar programs at five other locations
Actions implemented: The Ethics & Grievance Committee reviews any unfair practice and comes with the appropriate recommendations
First Indo-US Healthcare Summit Objectives • This summit brought together leading experts from the US and India for enhancing the practice of medicine in high priority disease states with focus on: • Prevention • Treatment & • Management Diseases States • Diabetes • Infectious Disease HIV, TB, Hepatitis • Emergency Care • Coronary Artery Disease • Mental Health • Women's and Children Health
Highlights of AAPI Activities - 2008 AAPI Legislative Conference in Washington, DC • Shortage of Physicians in the United States in the very near future was discussed. • The extension of the J1 Visa and its practical application was discussed.
