  6. Raid on Harper’s Ferry Harpers Valley, Virginia John Brown wanted to help slaves by giving them guns to rebel against their owners. He and a group of soldiers raided a gun storage facility in Harper’s Valley, Virginia. Othersoldiers surrounded the area, but Brown refused to surrender. 1859

  7. John Brown Two of John Brown's sons died at Harpers Valley. Brown was wounded.

  8. John Brown was put on trial and hanged for his organization and involvement at Harper’s Ferry.

  9. How did their actions relate to the causes of the Civil War? Harriet Beecher Stowe Her book, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, demonstrated the atrocities of slavery, and it turned many people (Northerners) against slavery.
