Luke’s Empheses • Jesus born in humiliating circumstances –fringes of society emphasis—shepherds not magi (Luke 2) • Luke 10: parable of Good Samaritan • Jesus heals lepers –only one comes back to thank him –Samaritan (Lk 17) • Tax collectors—Zacchaeus (Lk 19) • Unique parables (Lk 15) Lost sheep, lost coin—sent to rescue this type
Luke’s Empheses • Reason for telling parables—rejoice when lost/outcast found • Parable of the Prodigal son • Prodigal son gets all the attention normally • Oldest son focus • What’s missing—Older brother’s reaction? why, will the Pharisees respond… • Jesus as compassion on outcasts of society
