  4. Why Parables? • To phrase and hide the doctrine involved so only the spiritually literate would understand and be held accountable. • Depends on receptiveness of the people being taught. • Jews vs. Nephites receptiveness. • Jews= 40 or more parables • Nephites= taught in plainness
