5. The Man behind the chair It all started in 1903, when a man named Thomas Lee was vacationing with his loved ones in Westport, New York. Mr. Lee was on a mission to construct the perfect outdoor chair, which would allow him to take in the sights of Lake Champlain, in all its glory. He built the prototype of the Adirondack chair that we know today. Nothing was overlooked and he provided very special attention to detail. The seat was a constructed slant making it extremely compatible with the sloped Westport terrain.
