  39. CERTIFICATION Students who choose the certification pathway have an opportunity to get certified in various disciplines. There are five certifications that students can choose from: • IC 3 Certification • Google Apps for Education (Docs, Mail, Calendar, Sites, etc.) • MOS Certification (Microsoft Office Specialist in either Word, Excel or PowerPoint) • A+ Certification • NET + Certification Any student who chooses this pathway will be provided with training materials and practice exams. A+ and NET + Certification require 18 weeks of preparation, while all other require 9 weeks.

  40. PROGRAMMING/NETWORKING Students who choose the programming/networking pathway have an opportunity independently learn two types of programming and general computer networking skills. In this pathway, there are three directions a student can go: • C++ Programming • JavaScript Programming • Computer Networking Both programming pathways will take the student through an online course, complete with practice exam questions, study guides and “hands on” projects. The Networking pathway also takes students through a structured curriculum with a “hands on” project at the end of each unit. Both of these pathways are 18 weeks long.

  41. COMMUNICATIONS Students who choose the communications pathway have an opportunity to pursue multiple communication strategies in a 9-week period. Students will rotate through various options being held accountable for their production of materials • 1 Week - Blog Creation (daily blog from each campus) • 2 Weeks - TSI Website (daily updating of material) • 2 Weeks - All Leyden Presentation (bi-weekly open presentations about various technologies at each campus) • 2 Weeks - Video Production/Editing (bi-weekly updates to flat screen at each campus) • 2 Weeks - Tutorials (online tutorial added to blog/website every two weeks) Students can go through this pathway more than once throughout the school year.

  42. FBLA This is a first-semester pathway in which students can prepare for various FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competition in January. Students will be required to document the progress of their event product through weekly progress reports and meetings with the instructor. Students must have a first draft of their product after week 4 and be fully completed with their product at the end of week 9. There are various competitions students can pursue, including: • Desktop Application Programming (I) • Digital Design & Promotion (I/T) • Digital Video Production (I/T) • E-business (I/T) • Electronic Career Portfolio (I) • Web Site Design (I/T)

  43. GOOGLE APPS DEVELOPMENT Students who pursue this pathway will be using the MIT App Inventor websitehttp://explore.appinventor.mit.edu/ to learn how to build and create their own apps. Students who choose this pathway will gain experience developing applications using a web browser and either a connected phone or emulator. The apps created will need to benefit the Leyden School District (i.e. Lunch Menu App, eSchool App, etc.) This is a 9-week pathway. Student will first complete the introductory tutorialHelloPurr.Student will then choose ten tutorials to complete from the App Inventor website prior to creating a Leyden specific app.
