Religion has… • Instigated atrocities such as the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, etc. • Led to hate and intolerance • Oppressed women and minorities • Created sectarian bigotries • Opposed scientific process • Promoted slavery • Caused environmental destruction • Initiated wars • Created harmful superstitions resulting in unjustified death (e.g. witch hunts) • Led to oppressive colonialism • Been a source of extreme moral failures and hypocrisy • Not offered better solutions (e.g. divorce statistics are similar)
