Standards-Based Report Cards Glynn County Schools 1st-3rd Grades 2011 - 2012
Why a New Reporting System? • To provide more specificinformation to students, parents and teachers • To plan individual learning lessons which address grade-level expectations not yet mastered
Example of a TraditionalReport Card • Reading – S or 93 • Math – N or 78 • Science – S or 84 • Social Studies – S or 82 • What does this tell you about a child’s learning?
What are Grade-Level Expectations? • Skills that a child will be able to demonstrate by the end of the school year
Where did the grade-level expectations originate? • From the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) • www.georgiastandards.org
How will the GPS be used? • Teachers will have a standards checklist based on grade level expectations • Teachers will utilize these expectations to guide instruction • These grade-level expectations will be included on the newly designed report cards
Grading Student Work • Graded papers will look different when they come home. • The teacher will score the assignment with the number of problems correct on the top and total number of total items on the bottom with teacher comments. Example: 8 (number correct) 10 (total number of items)
A parent’s essential question will change… • From: “What grade did you get?” • To: “What have you learned and how does this relate to grade-level expectations?”
Promotion/Retention CRCT (3rd) and OAS (1st-2nd) results, along with rubrics will be used to determine promotion/retention according to Glynn County School Policy.
Standards Based Report Cards • Aligned to the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) • The CRCT is created using the Georgia Performance Standards • Your child will be prepared for the following grade level
