  2. The History of Grading • Grades are standardized measurements of varying levels of comprehension within a subject area. Grades can be assigned in letters (for example, A, B, C, D, or F), as a range (for example 4.0 - 1.0), as descriptors (excellent, great, satisfactory, needs improvement), in percentages, or, as is common in some post-secondary institutions, as a Grade Point Average (GPA). The GPA can be used by potential employers or further post-secondary institutions to assess and compare applicants. A Cumulative Grade Point Average is the mean GPA from all academic terms within a given academic year, whereas the GPA may only refer to one term.

  3. Standard Based Grading • Standards-based grading measures what a student should know and be able to do at each grade level according to New Hampshire state content standards. Under the standards-based system, students are graded on their achievement on grade level expectations.

  4. Report Card “Features” • Students will be assessed on how they have met the expectations (EE, ME, AE, BE) • The summative assessment will used to evaluate students on standards • Standards/Clusters listed for the trimester. • Students will also receive a letter grade • There will not be – or + for letter grades.

  5. Report Card “Features” cont. • Letter grades will be based on all trimester assessments, formative and summative • Students will receive individual reports for each Trimester. • At the end of the school year, students will receive a final report which will include the third trimester report card along with an updated Trimester 1 and 2 report.

  6. Report Card “Features” cont. • Students will have the opportunity to work on standards not mastered from the 1st and 2nd trimester. • If students meet expectations for standards reported out for Trimester 1 and 2, this will be acknowledged in the end of the year report. • Letter grades are reflective of work completed for the individual trimester. Therefore, letter grades earned for the trimester can not be changed. • Letter grades are not cumulative.

  7. Report Card “Features” cont. • Students will NOT be assessed in Personal Development: Effort, Work Completion, Work Quality and Conduct. • Staff will use the PBIS standards of Responsible, Respectful and Prepared in evaluating Personal Development. • Staff will use the EE, ME, AE, BE grading legend when reporting out on Personal Development.
