Developing a Shared Understanding: Consistency, Conversations, and Calibration Educator Evaluation Spring Convening May 28 & 29, 2014
Objectives District team members will • use a broad definition of calibration to reflect on opportunities for consistency and collaboration across the 5-Step Cycle • learn about the strategies and resources that presenters used to address issues of calibration in their districts • develop some next steps to support district calibration work in 2014-15
What is Calibration? Ongoing, frequent collaboration that brings a group of people to a common understanding that helps to ensure consistency and fairness.
Consistency and Collaboration • What does “proficient practice” look like? • What elements of effective teaching practice are prioritized during observations? • How is evidence collected and shared? • How are artifacts connected to goals and standards? • How do evaluators provide high quality feedback to teachers? • How are formative and summative evaluations written?
Learn from Others • Team members will each attend different ”mini-presentations” • 10 minutes: Learn about the process and strategies these districts are using • 10 minutes: Open Q&A time • Use the packet of one page summaries and the graphic organizer to make notes on each presentation to share with other team members
Team Time • As a team, use the graphic organizer to share ideas from the presentations and to develop a plan The goal is for your team to leave today with a simple, actionable plan for the calibration work in a specific area of need for your district.
Session Evaluations • Please take a few minutes to complete the evaluations. We value your feedback!
