3. Terminology Motor vehicle – includes trailer
Trailer – includes all vehicles that are designed to be drawn by a motor vehicle and runs on wheels
Semi-trailer – trailer with no front axle and at least 15% of the mass carried by the drawing vehicle
4. Manufacturer’s responsibilities Must register with province
Must comply with requirements of MIB Inspectorate – SABS
Must have all relevant legislation and SANS specifications
Must build trailers in terms of specifications and homologation requirements

8. Operational Requirements: Brakes Up to 750 kg GVM: Tare of drawing vehicle must be double GVM of trailer

3501 + kg GVM: Must have service brake and must be ABS brakes

11. SANS specifications Reg 216 incorporates all SANS standards into the legislation
