John Dalton’s Atomic Theory • 1808 • All matter is composed of small particles called atoms. • Atoms of a given element are identical in size, mass, and properties; atoms of different elements are different in size, mass, properties. • Atoms cannot be subdivided, created, or destroyed (law of conservation of mass).
