Ability to Make Decisions Sports leaders will need to make decisions before and during the event. It is important that a sports leader evaluates their decision making abilities after a sports event. Example of decision made Decided not to supply food or drink Decided to lead a football tournament with two leg rounds Decided to send a troublesome child home Decided to shorten the event because of poor light Questions to Ask Was it a good decision? What were the consequences of the decision? Would I make that decision again? If not, what would I do instead?
Good Standard of Appearance Looking the part as a sports leader is very important. It shows that you are professional. There are a number of things that a sports leader should consider about their appearance: Tracksuit/Appropriate sportswear Suitable sports footwear Appropriate equipment e.g. whistle, clipboard
Ability to Relate to Others Being able to relate to others is an important part of being an effective sports leader. Sports leaders need to be able to understand other people well because it will allow them to use an appropriate communication and leadership style. This factor is closely related to communication and leadership.
Evaluation There are a number of factors that the sports leader should consider when evaluating a sports event. These factors include personal qualities of a sports leader, ability to make effective decisions, good standard of appearance, and ability to relate to others. A SWOT analysis is a technique that can be used to evaluate a sport event. This includes the four stages. These are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Based on the review and evaluation of the sports events the sports leader may make modifications for future events.
