  2. Why? Because we’re falling behind! Nationally there is a 10% gap between boys' and girls' attainment in schools Dcfs Standards Site – This is based on five A*-C at G.C.S.E This gap widens in language based subjects such as English 16% MFL 15%.

Government Findings • When boys enter secondary school they are already well behind girls. • Except in a small number of schools, the gap does not close during the secondary years. • Boys continue to achieve less well than girls at GCSE examinations. Gender Gap at Little Heath • The % of pupils aged 15 at Little Heath who gained 5 or more GCSE/GNVQ passes at A* - C in 2006 was 74%. • Girls out-performed the boys by over 20% (Girls 84%; Boys 64%) • In 2007 and 2008 we were determined to reduce this gap. • In 2007 it fell to 12% but the girls were still well ahead • In 2008 it was only 3%.

  6. Why does this matter to you? Over 8out of every 10 girls had the Level 2 qualifications needed for more advanced study in 2009 They had choices about their futures BUT ONLY 7 OUT OF 10 BOYS HAD THESE CHOICES

  12. A Rapidly Changing World • Until 90 years ago women were treated as second-class citizens. They did not even have the vote. • 40 years ago women in management was unusual and most women were denied equal pay with men for same jobs. • Women now have a fair chance of success and the majority are working hard to get the best career they possibly can.

  13. What will you tell your sons in 20 years time? • “When your Grandad was young men used to have most of the top jobs like the one your Mum does.” “I got where I did today through hard work and ability – but I needed good qualifications at school to get me started on the road to success”.

Ready to Revise? • If you want to max your performance you need to be READY TO REVISE • To revise efficiently you need to understand how you learn best • There is no magic formula – you must be prepared to experiment I explain what I have been learning to my Dad or my friends. It really helps me remember stuff.
