Introduction • Our hypothesis is that SN can be and is a useful and viable tool for SN. • The main reason for us choosing this topic is because of the popularity of SN, and the goodness of charity. We thought of researching on whether these 2 things could be done together.

Rating of usefulness of SN for charity on a scale from 1 to 4 The chart above shows that the majority of respondents feel that Social Networking for charity is quite useful, but still totally effective. This could be due to the fact that they distrust the charity sites they encountered.
Number of respondents who have taken part in charity organizations via SN Out of the 20 respondents, only 1 has participated in charity via SN before. This is probably because she used a site recommended by her friend. Therefore, she trusts the site more and feels that there is no danger if she participates.
Uses for SN sites for charity Most of the respondents who have seen an SN site for charity observed that it was raising funds. Our interviewee said that fundraising sites are the most distrusted. This is because of the recent scams through fundraising and the like. (Please note that each survey allowed for multiple answers)
To investigate Singaporean’s attitude and perceptions towards SN for charity, a survey was conducted with 20 respondents. • An interview was also carried out on Choo Jin Kiat, Acting Executive Director of O’Joy Care Services. • We analyzed the information we got and came up with this conclusion.
Overall, only 5% of all the respondents said that they have participated in SN through SN before. That means only 1 of the respondents has taken part in charity via SN. • We think it is due to the level of distrust of the SN site and its purpose. • As such, we think that people should learn that most SN sites are 100% trustworthy and start participating in charity through SN.
So, we conclude that if people were to put aside their distrust SN would be a more viable and effective tool for charity. • However, we are not saying that we should totally shun the possibilities of scams and the like. • Therefore, if organizations were to have more integrity and set up real sites that help real people, it would also be much safer for people to use SN for charity. • If people were to start using more SN sites for charity, they could reach out to even more people than before.
