Herefordshire Leadership Community A local initiative with national & international perspectives
HLC is being devised by the people for the people • A new development • Like mined educational professionals • Lead by Head Teachers
The aim is to develop an inclusive leadership community across Herefordshire and beyond…….
HLC is: • A group of people from the community of education • Aiming to promote excellence & high quality leaning across our county • Aiming to develop current & future leaders • Only as good as the commitment from all who are part of it • Collective responsibility • Organic & growing • New but developing on good practice
HLC is not: • An organisation in competition with other groups • An exclusive group • A building • A directive from the local authority or the government • A particular philosophy about leadership • A substitute for leadership activities & training already existing
If you would like to be part of it, there is room for you.
A new Leadership Mindset • Change the focus • A more expanded view of leadership. Observe it as a dynamic process whereby people who care about an issue connect their efforts to make change.
If we are trying to foster leadership as a collaborative process, is it counter-productive to select and focus on building the skills of individuals?
2. If the leadership is enacted by many people who bring different skills to a collective endeavour, why would we try to cultivate all of the leadership skills in one person?
3. Should we be recruiting and supporting people who want to work on a shared purpose or in a common context to support collective leadership and accelerate action learning?

Building relationships • Multiple entry points • Convening & process • Learning by doing – risk taking • Implication for leadership development
