  7. Best Practice Projects • Zipcar • Car share program • Champaign, Urbana, University of Illinois, and C-U Mass Transit District • First program of its kind • 6 cars initially in January 2009 • $109,000 guarantee • March, 2010 released from guarantee • 600 local members • 11 cars currently

Best Practice Projects • Campus Area Transportation Study • CATS partners include the CUUATS, Champaign, Urbana, University and CUMTD • Looks comprehensively at transportation issues • Pedestrian, bicycle, transit and vehicle movement • All jurisdictions, all agencies serving the campus area www.ccrpc.org/CATS/index.php

Best Practice Projects • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle Fueling Station - Fleet managers from all three entities currently working to bring a CNG station to town - CNG: reduce carbon & PM emissions, existing distribution network, costs less per equivalent unit than gas, works across range of vehicles, reduce dependence on foreign oil - Series of meetings to discuss strategies for cooperation, funding, vehicle conversions, locating additional partners, etc.

Future Opportunities • Improved collaboration on development & implementation of: • Climate Action Plans • Sustainability Plans • Recycling Initiatives • Local Foods • Education & Outreach • Regional Sustainability Inventory • Bike Plans • Regional Trails • Energy Projects Recognize the strengths and limitations of each organization. Try to utilize each others’ strengths & expertise when possible.
