Overall aims of course: The main objective of the course is to teach the students the following:- Natural gas as a source for feed stock for fertilizers industries. Gas – shift reaction, ammonia synthesis, urea production, nitric aced and nitrate fertilizers, formulation of fertilizers for specific needs.
Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs( A-Knowledge and understanding • a3-I List the main types of inorganic fertilizers. • a3-ii Explain how natural gas is feed stock for fertilizers industry. • a3-iii Explain the production of Ammonia. • a16-I Explain the production of Urea. • a16-ii Describe the Nitric acid production. • a16-iii Explain the production of Ammonium Nitrate. • a16-iv Define formulation of fertilizers for specific needs.
b- Intellectual skills: • b4-I Calculate the heating value of a natural gas • b4-ii Determine the performance of furnaces and boilers • b4-iii Calculate the theoretical air required for complete combustion and the volume of excess air. • b4-iv Determine the composition of dry flue gases. • b4-v Calculate the temperature of the flue gases. • b4-vi Calculate the percentage of heat recovered in the waste heat boiler. • b4-vii Determine the amount of steam produced in the waste heat boiler • b4-ix Calculate the boiler efficiency. • b4-x Examine the heat exchanger design.
