Where did football originate? Football was played all around the world, in every corner of geography and history. The Chinese, Japanese, Italians, Ancient Greek, Persians, Viking and many more played a ball game before us. The Chinese played football games as far back as 3000 years ago. The ancient Greeks used it to sharpen warriors for battle. But England was the one that made football take shape.
Who made up the first organized set of rules for Football? The first people that organized football rules was a group of clubs. In 1863 they met in London and set up the first football association in the world called the Football Association. (FA)
Why did they do this? They did this because football was growing in popularity and there were many clubs so they needed some form of organization. And so they made up the rules of football in 1863.
How many countries play Football as their national sport? Football is known as the national sport to over 60 countries. Here are some areas where football is a national sport.

Why is football so popular Football is played at a professional level all over the world. Millions of people regularly go to football stadiums to follow their favorite teams while billions more watch the game on television or on the Internet. A very large number of people also play football at an amateur level. According to a survey conducted by FIFA published in 2001, over 240 million people from more than 200 countries regularly play football.
Here are three reasons why football is so popular: Football is a sport so popular around the world and lot’s of people play it is because the sport has simple rules. For example it would be harder to teach and learn cricket, then to teach and learn football. So many people would be able to play football and become professional very easily. So that’s one reason why football is so popular.
Another reason is that football does not need lots of equipment to play it unlike American football, football has minimal equipment requirements so many poor people would play this with just simply using a ball to play with and rocks as a goal stand.
Another reason why football is so popular is that anybody can play it; even at an amateur level you can still play the game. From poor to rich people around the world they can play football because of its simplicity. So those are the three main reasons why football is so popular.
Are there different ways of playing, or styles, of Football in different areas around the world? Yes there are different ways and styles of playing football. Each regional area how there own styles or skills. For example British players are quick, and physical. Italian players are skillful, cunning and cautious. Latin players like Argentina are confident with the ball, good dribblers and creative. So each regional area have their own style of playing.
