Transport and manipulation input • Updated layout and modifications of previous design • Bigger overall height due to a larger span • Festoon parallel to the railways containing all cables • Main hoist • Capacity: 40 ton • Lifting height: 24 m • Lifting speed: 5 m/min • FEM classification: M4/A4 • Reeving system: 4/2 (true vertical lift) • Auxiliary hoist: • Capacity: 5 ton • Lifting height: 26,1 m • Lifting speeds: 1.6 m/min • FEM classification: M4/A4 • Reeving system: 4/2 (true vertical lift) R. Rinaldesi, K. Kershaw M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  9. Transport and manipulation input 5 ton 40 ton R. Rinaldesi, K. Kershaw M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  10. Transport and manipulation input • Fault analysis (link) • Mechanical faults (hoist + cross and long travel) • Most risky is gearbox assembly – additional mitigation with heavy duty gearbox • Electrical faults • Cubicles (power and control) outside radiation areas M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  11. Initial discussion on access system configuration Material Door: Controlled F. Valentini M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  12. F. Valentini M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  13. TO BE MODIFIED WITH NEW LAYOUT OF HS BUILDING F. Valentini M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  14. Next items for discussions: • Confirmation of the role of the CV systems • Confirmation of radiological classification of the different areas (RP) • List of all CENF areas accessible by personnel • Confirmation of the CENF sectorization F. Valentini M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  15. Update on He-vessel calculations • Preliminary evaluation on the He-vessel structural issues • Assuming vacuum needed before refilling with He • Case studied: • 100 mm thick – 250 ton • 50 mm thick – 125 ton • 50 mm thick – lateral stiffeners • 50 mm clamped • Max total deformation 36 mm • Max reaction force 1.2 MN • Stress ~175 MPa, good safety factors with S235/S355 SSS • Other solutions under investigation (i.e. screw pushing the blocks)! A. Perillo-Marcone, M. Hora M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  16. T2K He-vessel clamping M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  20. Discussion on cooling and ventilation matters • Design air-tightness parameter (until CE parameters will be available) 0.6 vol/h @50Pa • Morgue will be at a lower pressure with respect to target hall • In the next days a proposition on the pressure cascade will be discussed • Flow estimation ! M. Battistin M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  21. PRELIMINARY • Avoid recirculation in the underground areas (dry air) • Recirculation in the target hall • Dedicated extraction for the service pit will be foreseen • Foresee a delay line in the underground extraction • HTO condensation at the extraction or at stack? Delay line/buffer tank M. Battistin M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  22. PRELIMINARY No recirculation M. Battistin M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  23. Discussion on cooling and ventilation matters • Flow estimation will be clarified with an improved thermal load distribution • ongoing PRELIMINARY b. 893 M. Battistin M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  24. Radioprotection updates C. Strabel, H. Vincke M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  25. Cumulated dose in reflector area • ~10 Gy/y at motors location (~1010 HEH/cm2/y) • ~Gy/y in the service pit • Expected <O(10) mGy/y in target hall C. Strabel, H. Vincke M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  26. Cumulated dose in 1st pit area • ~1-50 kGy/y at 1stmuon pit C. Strabel, H. Vincke M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  27. Radioprotection and radionuclide emission • According to present calculations, 44 TBq/y would be released if extraction would be immediate; 30 TBq/y are due to 15O, with a t1/2 of 2 min; • If air could be released with a delay of 5 to 10 minutes, the effective dose to public will be minimal • Next: • When ventilation flow will be know, the effect of continuous release will be evaluated by HSE P. Vojtyla M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013

  28. Next steps • Next meeting to be organized during next week • URGENT and being followed-up: clarify ventilation flows, propose pressure cascade and sectorization • Small document to be prepared? • Thermal loads evaluation in the installation M. Calviani - CENF PTM 19th September 2013
