Progresses on SB facilityCENF meeting 30th May 2013 M. Calviani for the CENF SB team
Organization of the CENF SB WG • Next meeting will be next Tuesday 4th June at 13h30 in 892-1-D20 • Meeting are not called every week, but every 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the progresses • Mailing list created: CENF-SBWG@cern.ch • EDMS already created in the CENF project space: https://edms.cern.ch/nav/P:CERN-0000096725:V0/P:CERN-0000096750:V0/TAB3 • List will include all the requird “corps de métier” CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
CE updates N. Baddams • Slope of the access road back to 7% • Ground around the surface building in order to guarantee a better protection when moving hot object on the surface CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
CE updates (b. 755) • 3D models (no shielding) from Nigel’s drawing • CE structure will be in the hands of GS/SE • Access the service rooms will be implemented with a “fosse” (material) + air-tight doors L. Faisandel CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Integration update • As mentioned last meeting, focus on the implementation of the target/horn/reflector assembly and alignment • 3(4) feet for alignment on a special designed beam 15.5 m He-vessel structure 5.5 m S. Girod, MC CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Integration update • Service should be (de)connectable from an accessible place on top of the iron shielding • Common flange for services & strip line lateral to the He-vessel S. Girod, MC CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Integration update • Realistic shape for horn and reflector inner conductors • Target to be fixed on the horn front plate (ceramic spacers) S. Girod, MC CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Integration update CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Integration update • In order to move forward it would be necessary to proceed forward with a first engineering of the horn • Upstream and downstream neck thickness important input • Important input for target design, keeping the constraint of the physics requirement see next slide • Alfredo’s slides as reference https://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access?contribId=4&resId=1&materialId=slides&confId=252456 CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Target design updates Pipe Around Target PolyC Graphite 2020 PT He (cooling) 12 mm Clamping of Pipe and Target FEA - TARGET BENDING A. Perillo-Marcone / F. Loprete CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Target design updates d Clamping of Pipe and Target Deflection at free end for different pipe geometries A. Perillo-Marcone / F. Loprete CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Interface primary/secondary beam NB: the collimator is there to protect the horn neck! CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Interface primary/secondary beam • This solution is under investigation: • DGS/RP • Evaluation of the iron/marble thickness required to guarantee access in the primary beam line for maintenance • Maximum aperture of shielding’s neck to minimize back-scatter • TE/VSC • Technical feasibility of the proposed double-walled Be window • Important to clarify (primary beam): • Maximum angular spread of an off-axis beam in case of a magnet misfire • Beam divergence impact on collimator design, horn neck and DP exit window CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Cooling and ventilation • Requirements from the SB under analysis by Michele B. • https://edms.cern.ch/document/1288014 • Comments: • If possible use operational temperature >25 ˚C • Several points are still to be estimated, but a starting point to provide costs and surface requirements Water circuits CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Cooling and ventilation • Comments: • As suggested by H. Vincke, use dry air for underground ventilation circuits • DGS/RP results for air activation will indicate the required flush for the SP-VENT circuit input for DGS/SEE and EN/CV Air/He ventilation circuits CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Powering equipment for horn/reflector • The CNGS transformers have been recuperated from WANF • S. Rangod (retired) and G. Marie (PH/DT/DI) responsible for the electrical systems (transformers and pulse circuits) • Shall we contact him to provide some feedbacks on the EL part? CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Various items • In order to provide additional input, EN/EL will require a better understanding of the load distribution in the SB area • Will need input from EN/CV and a first integration implementation • Waste reutilisation under discussion with RP/RW • Possible use for the 2nd dump layer (reduction of muon fluence for EHN1) • Inside DP shielding concrete? CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
Various items • Discussions ongoing with EN/HE to proceed with the technical specifications of the main and of the auxiliary crane • Clarification of operation, redundancy, equipment on the hook, etc. • P. Ninin (GS/ASE) invited to participate to the SB WG activities as link person for the safety systems integration & related matters CENF PTM - MC - Progresses on the SB facility
