4. Membership Information • The Committee has decided to get rid of the Annual Membership Fee. There will still beMembership and to be considered a Member you must: • Members must be inline and agree with our Mission Statement; • Members have the right to vote when and if required; • Members will be registered on a database system; • Membership will be based on attending practices on a weekly basis and if you can’t make a practice, be accountable to a Committee Member; • Members need to help with the Fundraising events – the Committee will make up aRoster of events in which Members will be rostered on. Members must contributetowards any fundraising initiatives to benefit the group; • We encourage non-Performing Members to help in other ways like looking after thechildren while in practice or performing or vehicle pickup/drop offs.

5. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 From the date of the last AGM until October 2010, our Roopu practiced weekly on a Wednesday night. We found our numbers were fluctuating as there were new commitments such as sport etc that began to fall on the same nights as our practice. We lost a few families, but thankfully they moved on into good things such as church life, and we also gained new families. Our numbers haven’t quite recovered however we have decided not to focus on numbers, but to focus on individuals, and forming relationships with the new members.

6. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 OCTOBER 2010 On the 10.10.10 our Roopu performed at the wedding of a nephew of one of our members. The feedback received from this performance was excellent. The bride and groom were very grateful and were very impressed by our Roopu especially the small kids! However we also had some issues with the Tamariki making too much noise at such a formal occasion. This made us realise that bringing the whole Roopu out to such occasion may not be so practical. However a solution was just around the corner. We also performed at the "Spring It On" festival hosted by Hillsong  Minchinbury Extension Service. This also was a success, and we learnt to perform in the "not so perfect" conditions. It was so hot, and the stage was very wobbly and very small. It was a great learning curve. However it didn’t affect our performance overall and we were told that we were one of the "stand out" groups on the day. We were more proud of our kids getting up there and doing there best!

Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 NOVEMBER 2010TKOTA t-shirts were spoken of and as a committee it was agreed to get TKOTA t-shirts made up, with the intention of giving the,as a gift to members of the roopu for Christmas. These t-shirts were very generously sponsored by Koru Freight, aka. Karen and Barry Tamaka, and the design on the front of the t-shirt, which was a one off for the Christmas gift, was an original design by Ashlyn Simmons. The practices for the roopu started to wind down as it was close to the end of the year and everyone was gearing up for the Christmas season. DECEMBER 2010TKOTA held our annual Christamas break-up at Riverstine pools. This was a fun-filled food filled day for all there, and was thoroughky enjoyed by all. We were not able to present all of the t-shirts due to problems with the supplier only, but still the day was an all round success.

Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 JANUARY 2011A kapahaka wananga was held for certain members of the roopu who we felt were fast learners.This was important as it was an accelerated learning weekend. The kaiako for the weekend was Devlin Tikitiki. The purpose of the wananga was 3 fold, the first being to learn the new songs written and given to us, by Vinnie and Joanne Hema. The second reason was for Meta and I to learn new teaching methods and the importance/relevance of kapahaka. The third reason was to learn how to hole/run a wananga with the intention and hope of being able to hold/ run one ourselves for our roopu in the future. From this wananga a "core group" was formed. This group was put together to perform at corporat or formal events such as weddings. We feel a smaller group of strong performers wouldbe more practical as there is less people to "move". The monies raised from these more formal and corporate functions goes into the TKOTA funds for the roopu to benefit from as a whole. We felt this weekend was a real success, and we felt blessed to have had Devlins help.

9. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 FEBRUARY 2011Kapahaka practices for TKOTA resumed. A change was made to the day we practiced from a Wednesday to a Monday night. This was to try and relieve some of the pressure of the other committments that all seemed to be happening around the middle of the week. Due to the change of nights, we had new members join, old members join, some members "go on a break" and some members leave all together. We also introduced a new format to kapahaka with the hope to break the montony of practice. These strategies were learnt at the kapahaka wananga, from Devlin Tiktiki held in January. The t-shirts were also presented to the remaining people after changing supplier! These t-shirts were 100% better than the original supplier.We also performed as an entire roopu at a 21st. This was a paid gig and was a great night. Great performance by TKOTA! The following day we performed at a church opening in Rooty Hill. We really enjoyed the day and the church were very appreciative. The group performed really well on that day too!

10. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 MARCH 2011New songs were being taught. Tamariki Time was implemented to cater for the younger kids who struggled to concentrate and became distracting or disruptive. This has been a real benefit to the members who are learning and more importantly to the kids. Tamariki time is a highlite for our babies. We were also asked to perform at the Tigers vs Warriors game. The majority of the roopu travelled on the bus which was a cool experience! The performance was again awesome! We also announced our plans for our end of year break up to be held at Jamberoo! APRIL 2011This month was a quiet month for the roopu, A fundraising effort was held, by say Monkey Photography. This wasnt as successful as we hoped. Howeve it was still a good learning curve for us, and we really appreciated the effort put in by Say Monkey Photography!

11. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 MAY 2011TKOTA  was asked to and agreed to perform at the final services for both the Hillsong Polynesian and Minchinbury extension services. Both lead pastors from both services had been and still are encouraging supporters of TKOTA. Both performances were a success, one being a 10 minute performance the other being a semi spontaneous haka. Regardless, both performances were heartfelt and an honour. On the business end of things a Fundraising Committee was agreed to and formed. The committee consisting of Jo Hema and Theresa Reihana, with a liasing person from the TKOTA  general committee, being Ariana Roberts. A fundraising effort was held, by say Monkey Photography. This wasnt as successful as we hoped. Howeve it was still a good learning curve for us, and we really appreciated the effort put in by Say Monkey Photography! We also held a fundraisig BBQ held at Kmart Blacktown. This was the first fundraiser that the fundraising committee running. We made a profit of in excess of $300. The day we held, fundraiser was the same as day as the Blacktown Festival, and due to this fact wasnt as sucessful as it could have been! We will try this again on a different day, as we still believe this is a successful fundraiser! We also got to be a part of our first ever baby dedication and house blessing. A koha was given and Frank was the officiating minister. As far as Jamberoo is concerned we have booked and confirmed all numbers for our end of year break up.

12. Achievements/Activities 2010-2011 JUNE 2011Performance wise, we had our first official performance as a "core group"at a wedding held in Manly. This went very very well and we were received with much appreciation. We saw the immediate benefit of having a core group. This month we held our first ever hangi fundraiser. This was a fantastic success, so much so due to the sucess of we have decided to hold another one on August 20th. The monies form these hangis are going to ward out end of year break up at Jamberoo and any excess monies will be allocated to otheer expenses at a later date. We built a new partnership with a lady named Hana. Her business is Hanas Hangis and she does all the work while all we do is sell the tickets. It was awesome!JULY 2011We havent had any performances this month but we have recently been standing alongside the Berryman family from Doonside, at the tangi of Joseph Berryman. This is still happening as I type this. These are the occasions that mean far more than any performance on any stage. We are as a roopu called to love people! I feel this is a great honor and privilege!

14. 2011 -2012 Preview Overall, this year, for TE KAKANO O TE ATUA,we have had our ups and downs, successes and failures, but along the way, we have made so much progress in our learning from our mistakes and not so much focusing on our wrongs, but looking for ways and resolutions to make them right and moving forward together as a body for one cause. We have been given this opportunity to use our unique culture as a platform and a bridge to reach out to our own people, as well as the wider community and "share the gospel of GOD'S love for all people, to all people." It has been a journey full of laughs, tears, hopes , fears, joy, sadness, but in all of this, we have done it together, being there for one another and standing in the gap when we need to for each other because at the end of it all. One of the areas I have seen improvement in is the structure of our practices. An example is, One of the hardest things to do, is to get everyone to be at the same mindset, because we have all had a different day whether it be a good day or a not so good day Rose and I were blessed to get alongside someone before kapahaka started this year and learn and bounce ideas of him. Hence, the warm up drills and games that we have at the beginning of practices to get everyone into kind of the same mindset doing something together to bond and have a bit of fellowship before we start practicing. I have also seen the growth of our group through our children, for me personally, I am encouraged that there are more of them than us they are our next generation, our future leaders and if we can play a part in their growth, in teaching them who they are, and what they are capable of and at the same time feeding them the gift of knowledge, wisdom, worth, value, mana, kaha, love, hope, confidence, self belief and most importantly the gift of eternal life through JESUS, we have equipped them the best we can to see them succeed in whatever life throws at them. It has been a blessing to work alongside all of you through the cause of this financial year through all the triumphs and downfalls. I look forward to the year ahead as I see great things in store for us all whatever happens stay focused on why we are here not because of us but because HE who began a good work in us will be faithful to see what HE has pre planned for us see it to completion.
