  3. Mission The Institute for Community and Engagement and Outreach (ICEO) seeks to create mutually beneficial relationships to enhance the College’s role in the academic, social, economic and civic life of our state and local community.

Community Engagement at MCC UConn Department of Public Policy research Key Recommendations: • Continue to develop Advisory Board • Include students, external members • Create by-laws, term-limits and vision statement • Improve Internal Communication Strategy • Develop process to communicate internally for updates & requests for data, information and assistance • Solidify ICEO brand internally • Improve External Communication Strategy • Website • External stakeholders (face-to-face) • Print-media • Solidify the ICEO brand

  7. Public Policy & Service Center PPSC provides a forum for dialogue with local, state and national legislative representatives, public officials and agencies to share up-to-date information. Customized training programs for state & local employees, classroom and online training to staff from all state agencies and to employees of nearby municipalities, including teachers and law enforcement personnel • National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement • Manchester Political Union Student Club • President’s Regional Advisory Council • Legislative Advocacy • BET and Continuing Education training programs

  8. Business & Economic Development Center BEDC is committed to the economic growth and vitality of its region.   9. Community Partnerships Center CPC is a source of experts on relevant topics of academic or public interest. Educational Partnerships Center • Sociology: • 1000+ citizens served in community needs (education, tutoring, hunger, housing, & poverty) • Math, Science & Health Careers Division • Increase awareness of higher education at the middle school level • Culinary Arts: Culinary students helped children learn about healthy food preparation, participating in meaningful service related to their careers, academic majors, and the college learning goal of personal and social responsibility EPC is committed to achieving academic excellence through building and nurturing relationships with its communities through scholarships, service learning, and social responsibility. This commitment helps connect our on-campus learning with the real needs of its community.

Educational Partnerships Center • Business Dept. • Elementary students were able to learn real life skills related to employment and financial literacy. • Video students shot on location and edited 5-6 short video pieces for museum kiosks.  One video was on “water” and waste management facilities. • Graphic Design: CT Dept. of Health, on the effects of Super-storm Sandy on the State of Connecticut and its residents Communication students provided public engagement for HUD program on transportation planning Visual Fine Arts: Provide elementary school students the opportunity to express their creativity and learn from students

Educational Partnerships Center • Surgical Tech: • Hartford Hospital, St. Francis , Hospital of Central CT, ECHN of Rockville, ECHN of Manchester, Baystate, & Johnson Memorial Hospital • Therapeutic Recreation: • St. Joseph Living Center in North Windham, Buckingham Estates in Glastonbury, Gladeview Healthcare in Old Saybrook and New Seasons in Manchester • Occupational Therapy: • Hospital for Special care , Mount Sinai Rehab , Institute of Living, Middlesex Hospital, Various Apple Rehabs, public schools in Hartford, East Hartford, Hebron, and Bolton ; Middlesex Hospital • Respiratory Therapy: • Hartford Hospital, St. Francis, UConn John Dempsey, Hospital for Special Care, Children’s Medical Center, Yale New Haven, Hospital of Central CT, Manchester Memorial and Gaylord hospital

MCC on Main Arts and Education Center • The Town of Manchester conducted a market study and found: • Downtown Manchester has the potential to be a destination for arts, culture and entertainment • An arts environment would complement business growth • Because of its history of excellence both in the arts and as an economic engine, MCC is uniquely positioned to fill this community need downtown. • .

MCC on MainArts and Education Center • Funded by the MCC Foundation • MCC on Main is a key community asset and resource by offering arts and cultural programs, business development programming designed to engage the community, specifically targeting the diverse population of Greater Manchester. • The College has the people, the ideas, the connections and the skills to make quality arts and business programming accessible to the residents of the town.
