  3. Neuigkeiten 2004 • Neues CERN Management, im ACCU vertreten durch J.Engelen und/oder A.Naudi. Alter und neuer DG in der ACCU Sitzung Dez. 2003. ACCU Mandat wird aktualisiert: Chairman wird nicht mehr zum Executive Board eingeladen, obwohl bisher zum Management Board eingeladen. • Kürzung der CERN Fellowships um 20%: Brief von ACCU an DG und Council. Nur in Deutschland und Italien wurden die Council-Vertreter von den ACCU-Delegierten alarmiert. Vorerst keine weitere Kürzung geplant. • Einsparungen beim Druck der Yellow Reports (200 kCHF/J). Streichungen von Zeitschriften nicht so ernst wie zunächst angekündigt. H.Kroha, Bad Honnef 20.11.2004

Hostel Situation • Öffnungszeiten der Rezeption sind seit September bis Ende des Jahres auf Probe verlängert (aus Anlass der 50-Jahrfeier): 8:00 – 24:00 an 7 Tagen/Woche, ausserdem Nachtpförtner. • W-Lan in Gebäude 39 Anfang 2005. W-Lan in Gebäude 38 später und teurer (evtl. höhere Hostelpreise). H.Kroha, Bad Honnef 20.11.2004

  5. Hostel Situation • Langandauernde Diskussion über die optimale Auslastung der Hostels (75% in 2001-02). Ergebnis: Zimmerreservierungen möglich 1) mit Kreditkarte oder 2) über Team Account (auch via EDH), andernfalls nur bis 17:00 garantiert. Team Account Manager müssen Team-Mitglieder schriftlich gegenüber dem Housing Service autorisieren (Beispiel auf der ACCU Web-Seite). • Neue Reservierungssoftware für 2005 unter Evaluierung.   6. Hostelerweiterung • Nach Abtragung der Altschulden des Housing Funds ist ab 2005 der Neubau eines dritten Hostels möglich. Wird vom ACCU als notwendig erachtet. Ein Vorschlag von ACCOR für ein neues 175-Betten-Hotel (etwa 45% der derzeitigen Kapazität) würde ca. 11 MCHF kosten, Bauzeit bis 2007. • Zur Überbrückung während der Installation der LHC-Experimente könnten Zimmer in einem neuen ETAP-Hotel bei Balexert zu einem Preis von ca. 89 CHF (günstigere Sonderkonditionen angestrebt) für CERN User reserviert werden. • Entscheidung hängt an der Abschätzung des Bedarfs.   7. Hostelerweiterung Fragebogen (siehe auch ACCU-Seite) an die ACCU mailing-Liste verteilt. Sollte von jedem Institut für die ganze Gruppe gesammelt beantwortet werden, an die ACCU-Vertreter, bis Ende November für die nächste ACCU-Sitzung am 8. Dezember. Bisher 8 Antworten aus 6 Instituten. "A brief questionnaire from ACCU to gauge demand for a new hostel at CERN and for other alternatives" 1a In the last year, how many times (and for how many days, roughly) did you visit CERN? b For how many of these visits (and for how many days) did you stay in the hostel? c For how many of these visits (and over how many days) did you request a hostel room but had to find other accomodation as no rooms were available? d How many visits were cancelled because, having failed to book a CERN hostel room, you could not find accomodation elsewhere near CERN? 2 As a stopgap measure before a new hostel is built, CERN may be able to block-book rooms in a new Etap Hotel near Balexert (a short distance through the Avanchet Park housing estate to the no 9 bus). Would you be interested in staying in this Etap Hotel as an alternative to other hotels if the CERN Hostel were full? (Such rooms in the Etap hotel might cost around 89CHF per night). 3a Are you planning to reside fulltime at CERN before/during LHC startup (eg in 2007)? b Will you be looking for an appartment/house to rent during this period? c If so, please indicate your preferences: i) furnished or unfurnished ii) how many bedroom iii) in France or in Switzerland iv) if in France, would Haute Savoie be feasible? (These questions (3) are just to gauge possible demand for appartments etc; CERN cannot become involved in providing such accomodation).
