3. Linkage between ECNU and the International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa Joseph N, NGU with DU Yue UNESCO China NatCom Joseph N, NGU with YU Lizhong ECNU
Strong linkage has been developed, through the UNESCO Chair Programme, between ECNU and the International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa in teachers/teacher educators training, through planned joint development of training modules and “training of trainers” workshops.
4. Recommendations on Teacher Education in Africa • Improving quality of intervention by increasing financing for technical assistance and sectoral studies • Strengthening teachers’ capacity building at national and institutional levels • Specifying a gender disaggregated budget for female teacher educators in Africa • Laying more stress on inter-agency cooperation • More and better use of ICTs for expanded access and improved
Joint Programme of Supporting African Countries in Teacher Capacity-Building • Types of capacity to be built: Teaching skills, information literacy, • Trainer: International and ECNU scholars • Trainee: Africa teacher trainers • Mixed Training modules: (in developing) 4 weeks face-to-face training in ECNU 3-4 months online courses through networks 1-2 weeks action plan in African countries CD, VCD and DVD for remote area in Africa • Resources to be invested: human/knowledge/financial
Suggestion for Action • Starting with Training Teacher Trainers • Training ICT and Training through ICT • Developing flexible Training modules • More cooperation among governments, international organizations (such as UNESCO, UNICEF), Teacher Education Institutions (such as ECNU), and donars (such as ADB)
