Announcements: • I need every student to turn in their Short Narrative and Poetry Collection. Please turn in the original (the one I marked on) as well as the rubric for each assignment. • You will not get these back. I have to turn them in to the school so they can look over your work for this semester. • If you do not have this today, please turn it into me by next week. • Your “What If” Journals, assigned to you this summer, will be 10% of your overall grade in this course.
DRAMA: BODY LANGUGE To act in a play is to evolve into a character and to portray the character's personality in such a way that is believable to an audience. An actor must fully become the character physically and emotionally to be convincing.
Body language and Gestures= VERY IMPORTANT! • Gestures and Body Language are important and powerful tools which have in them, an immense potential and ability to affect the end effect of your dramas. • When used appropriately, body gestures may enhance and strengthen your play and also captivate your audience. • Used indiscriminately, they’re liable to dilute and dampen the power and effectiveness of your play. • Every action needs to be thought out and practice, several times, before your play.
Warm up: Body Language game • You will choose a piece of paper out of a box • On the paper there will be a description of the character (for example “a woman in despair”) • According the description, how would this character move? • You will move around the room, interacting with your environment and audience • If you choose to use words, you must NOT say any of the words written on the paper • The class will guess what character you are AFTER you act for 20 seconds
For the rest of class…. • Start choreographing your drama, you only have ONE WEEK left. • Suggestions: • Review and memorize the actions you will perform on stage. • Say your lines OUT LOUD. Are they convincing? Are the emotions real? • *When you come to class next week, each group needs to bring me ONE hard copy of your drama. • *We are supposed to be in room 304 for the next two weeks, but, this might change. If it does, I will put a sign on the door of 304 on that day of class and tell you where we will be.
