What is a Social Network? • New age way of communication. • Virtual Network of Friends and Co-Workers through the click of a button. • Groups of individuals interact by region, affiliation, school, work, etc. • Online community where a profile page is often used to represent the interests of the user • Mainly used for socialization based on common interest.
Who Uses Social Networks? • Teens and young adults use sites such as twitter, Facebook and Myspace. • Professionals in all fields overwhelm the site LinkedIn. • A full 25% of the users on these sites are aged 35 to 44, which in other words is the age group that dominates the social media sphere.

Why should employers use social networking sites • Social networking sites shows people real self oppose to what they sell to businesses • Employers are able to find out who is the right candidate • Employers are able to find out who is the wrong candidate
Statistics • Online job site CareerBuilder.com completed a survey of 3,169 hiring managers, with 22 percent of them saying they check on Facebook and MySpace when looking into job candidates. • Just a few years ago, approximately 10 % of employers did online screenings. • A recent survey commissioned by Microsoft found that 70 percent of recruiters and hiring managers in the United States have rejected an applicant based on information they found online.
