  3. What children will be learning… Summer 1:Making Things Go (Energy and Fuels) Summer 2: Olympics

  4. TopicEnergy Geography: • Solar panels. • Survey local area residents about opinions regarding renewable sources of energy. • Test ideas on how to collect evidence. Science: • Renewable and non-renewable energy • Investigate: Solar oven, car powered by rubber band/air, electricity from lemons Technology: Design and create wind mill/solar oven/toy car Look at other sources of energy for the future- lemon powered cars

  5. How the children will be learning... Year 6- Revision for KS2 SATs Through various activities, children will be revising reading and writing aspects in English and all aspects in Maths. Further revision will be done using past SATs papers in English and Maths. Teachers will model answering SATs style questions. Children will answer Mental Maths tests regularly so that they improve their speed and accuracy. Children will also have spelling tests regularly.

Main focus in English and Maths English Summer 1 Reading: Non-fiction genres (Persuasive, Balanced argument, Information, Recount, Biographies, Explanation, Instructions, Newspaper reports, Non-chronological reports) Poetry Narratives (Stories) Writing: Non-fiction genres (Persuasive, Balanced argument, Information, Recount, Biographies, Explanation, Instructions, Newspaper reports, Non-chronological reports) Narratives (Stories) Maths Summer 1 Securing calculating using the four operations Understanding shape Handling data Problem solving Mental Maths calculations

  7. Main focus in othersubjects/areas • Science: • How we see things; Light and shadow • Renewable and non-renewable energy

  8. Priority 1 Ensure that your child is on time and at school every day.

  9. Priority 2 • Revision for SATs: • Support your child with their homework. • Work through the CGP books with your child. • Make sure that they practise their spelling with the LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE, CHECK • Ensure children are learning their times tables and conversions for measurement.

  10. Homework rules • Turn Television off. • Work in a calm, quiet place. • Make a routine of doing homework at a particular time of the day. • Praise children and offer rewards (eg. day out somewhere interesting!) • Maintain stability and routine for the next few weeks!

  11. How you can help your child… • Ensure that your child has a good night’s sleep. • Give them a good breakfast in the morning. • Help them to be independent :Give them minor tasks at home. • Take your child to visit museums, galleries etc. : Talk to them about their environment and their experiences. • Enjoy being with your child by doing activities such as cooking, planting etc.

  12. We need your help with… • Check book bags for letters, homework etc. • Ensure that your child is reading every day as well as learning their times tables. • Assist your child with their homework. • Ensure that your child brings the proper PE kit on a Thursday.
