What are the Ohio Graduation Tests? The Ohio Graduation Tests are the new tests that students must pass in order to earn an Ohio high school diploma.
What are the purposes of the new tests? The purposes of the new tests are to: • Make sure that Ohio students who receive a high school diploma show at least a high school level of achievement; • Measure the level of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies skills expected of students by the end of 10th grade. • Meet federal law for high school testing.
What time of year will students take the OGT? Students take the OGT for the first time in the spring of their sophomore year. Students can continue to take the tests in the fall and spring of their junior and senior years, and in the summer.
Are the new graduation tests only multiple-choice questions? No!! The mathematics portion of the OGT is made up of 32 multiple choice questions, 5 short answer questions and 1 extended response question.
What resources can be used on the OGT? • OGT reference sheet that includes commonly used formulas. • OGT calculator provided by the test administrator.
What is the Review of the Week? • All LHS 9th grade students will be given a weekly OGT review called the Review of the Week (ROW). • The ROW will consist of questions that have appeared on previous OGTs. • ROWs will be worth 10 points – 6-8 multiple choice questions with a short answer or extended response question. • ROW’s will be graded using the same rubrics used to grade the actual OGT. • In Accelerated Geometry, ROWs will be assigned on Monday and due on Thursday of the same week.
