Writing Requirements • Introduction: • Background information • Hooks your reader • Functions as the “shallow end” • Thesis statement • Tells your reader exactly what you’re going to talk about • DO NOT SAY “I will write about” or “this essay is about” • Blueprint • List exactly what you will be discussing (each of your body paragraphs)

Writing Requirements • Body Paragraphs: • Topic sentence should begin each paragraph • Should contain transitions (first, another, finally) • Should clearly state what you will be discussing in the paragraph • Each topic sentence should be followed by some sort of explanation • Could be an example • Each paragraph should end by restating the main idea of the paragraph • Sort of functions as the bottom bun—why is this important
