The Personal Project • A capstone experience in the 10th grade MYP • Designed to showcase student skills and interest in lifelong learning • Students work one-on-one with a faculty supervisor to define and clarify goals and work towards successful completion • Students present their work at a public Open House
How does the IB look at Palmer? • Authorized by the IB in 1991 (Diploma) and 1998 (MYP, with North Middle School) • 350 students (out of 1950 / ~20%) • A magnet for the entire Pikes Peak region • 40 faculty in eight content areas • Full complement of IB classes grades 9 – 12 • Students fully integrated into athletics, clubs and electives at Palmer. • Diploma graduation rate exceeds the world avg
How are we changing in 2013? • Palmer MYP will no longer offer a “one size fits all” program restricted solely by academic performance. • We will begin the process of developing a complement of classes using the MYP framework and taught at grade-level (non-honors) in most or all of the 8 subject areas. • Honors level: based on evidence of above grade-level work, demonstrated student motivation, independence in learning, complexity of content
Inside an MYP Classroom • These are traits common to all MYP classes, regardless of whether they are instructed at an honors or grade-level.
