Resolutions to Remaining CIDs Authors: • Date:2014-07-16 Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
Abstract • The submission discusses on CIDs 4509, 4900 and 5136. Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
CIDs 4509 and 4900 • CID 4509 and 4900 have the exactly same comment: • The FILS discovery mechansms(i.e. scanning) are really independent functions to FILS access mechansims (association/security protocols). They should be controled independently by different MIB variables rather than a single MIB variable. • ProposedChange in 4509: • Separate scanning functions from other protocol functions. • ProposedChange in 4900: • Separate scanning functions from other protocol functions. Replace dot11FILSActrivated with dot11FILSDiscovery for funcitons that involve scanning, and replace dot11FILSActivated with dot11FILSAccess for all other functions. The commentor would be willing to supply a contribution if necessary. Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
Discussion • FILS consists on followingoperations: • FILS Discoveryframe • Active scanningmechanisms • GAS / ANQP mechanisms • DifferentiatedLink Setup • HigherLayer Setup / IP Addressassignment • FILS Authentication • Many of thesefeaturescouldbeused as owncapability and theiruse is notrelated to otherissues Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
Discussion • The current 802.11ai has for all these features only a single MIB parameter • No work has been done to explain the use of each feature independently of other FILS features • Separatingfeaturesunderown MIB parameterscomplicates 802.11 specification • A lot of work to implementthechanges • Otherstandardisationbodies / groupsmaycontinuethedevelopment and selectthesuitabletopics for furtherdevelopment Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
ProposedResolution to CIDs 4509 and 4900 • REJECTED. The FILS operationsshouldbemanagedwith a single MIB parameter. Multiple MIB parameters to control FILS parameterscreatecomplexityand thebenefit to 802.11 standard is marginal. Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
CID 5136 • Comment: • The unit of kilobits per second used in "Minimum Delay Limit" is too small. Suggest to use "Mbps" instead of "kbps". Also 3 octets for the filed of "minimum data rate" could be reduced. • ProposedChange: • - • Clarification: • Thecommentdiscusses on theMinimum Data Ratefield of the FILS RequestParameterselement Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
Discussion on 5136 • Therelevantunitfor dependson the transmission rate of thePHY • 802.11ax performancemaybeverydifferentfrom 802.11ah • Theunitkbit/s allows 802.11ai to beused in lowerthroughputradios as well • 3 octetsfieldenablesenoughroom to indicatevalues Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
Proposed Resolution for CID5136 • REJECTED. 802.11ai hasdiscussed and selectedthisspecificformat. Theformatmaximizes802.11ai support for different PHY types. Thecommenter is requested to provideanyproposedchange. Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
