What can you do? • Discourage the idea that body size and shape define you • Don’t categorize food as good or bad • Don’t comment on others body shape • Challenge body image myths. Healthy comes in all shapes and sizes • Being thin doesn’t make you beautiful (media)
Signs of Disordered Eating Patterns • Significant increase or decrease in weight • Change in eating patterns • Preoccupation with calories and fat • Frequently worrying about body size and shape • Excessive exercising
How You Can Help a Friend • Be a positive role model • Be educated about eating disorders • Know healthy behaviors • Express your concern. Use I language. • You can’t fix the problem. Provide support. • Encourage them to seek professional help
