Let’s meet our students • Student 1: Rebecca • Difficulty socializing appropriately and focusing • Student comes from a low SES • home visit made by teachers, • Teachers provide necessary school supplies • Tools for the student: • Social Story • Stand if needed • Seat fidget • Home Visit • Personal School Supply Basket

Let’s meet our students • Student 2: Lauren • Little motivation at school • Enjoys leaderships positions • Likes Kinesthetic/ hands on activities • Not a strong reader • Tools for the student: • Motivation Chart • reward= jumping jacks/ physical activity in the hall • Scented pencil • Opportunities to be an “expert”

Our Classroom • 4th Grade – Reading lesson • Ms. White (ECE) comes in to the room during reading • Ms. G (reg. ed) and Ms. White split the class in half and teach the same lesson at the same time with smaller groups. • The groups are mixed, there are ECE students in both • Students are familiar with this routine and these groups

Today’s Lesson • Figurative Language  Idioms • Standard:L. 4.5 • Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. • Objectives: • I can distinguish between literal and figurative language • I can illustrate what an idiom says and state what it literally means

  8. In your small group... 1. introduce idioms 2. Provide examples of idioms 3. Pick an idiom and illustrate it • State its literal meaning 4. Share your idioms with the class and distinguish between the literal and figurative language on your poster
