Biography • Born in at La Haye (now called Descartes)in March 31, 1596 • Was a philosopher, mathematician and scientific French, considered the father of modern philosophy, as well as one of the biggest names in the scientific revolution. • During the modern era was also known by its Latin name Renatus Cartesius. • In physics is considered the creator of the mechanism, and math, the creator of analytic geometry. • Educated at the Jesuit College of La Flèche between 1606 and 1614.

Biography • In 1618 he went to Holland to serve in the army of Prince Maurice of Nassau. • The most important influence on Descartes at this time was the mathematician Issac Beckman. • His first substantial work was the Regulae or Rules for the Direction of Mind written in 1628-9 but not published until 1701. • In November 1628 Descartes was in Paris, where he made himself famous in a confrontation with Chandoux. • In Holland Descartes produced a scientific work called Le Monde or The World which he was about to publish in 1634.

Biography • At the point, however, he learned that Galileo had been condemned by the Church for teaching Copernicanism. • In 1638 Descartes published a book containing three essays on mathematical and scientific subjects and the Discourse on Method.   5. Biography • In September 1649, Queen Christina of Sweden called Descartes to Stockholm. He died there of pneumonia on February 11, 1650 at 53 years of age. • The education he received at La Flèche to sixteen years (1604-1612) gave a solid introduction to classical culture, having learned Latin and Greek. • At 18 years old, Descartes entered the University of Poitiers to study law and medicine. For 1616 was already a law degree. • He died of pneumonia on February 11, 1650 at 53 years of age.
