What is a God’s Eye? • Ojo De Dios [God’s Eye] • A God’s Eye is a simple yarn weaving craft. • The craft consists of weaving colorful yarn around two connected sticks [any type of sticks can be used].
The History Behind God’s Eyes • The God’s Eye craft originated from the Huichol Indians of Western Central Mexico. • The Huichols are indigenous people to the Jalisco area.
History Continued • The eye [center] of a God’s Eye was made by the father of a newborn as an offering to the God who protected children. • Each year the father would add one string of yarn to the God’s eye until the child was five years old. At the age of five the God’s Eye was complete.
God’s Eyes symbolize: • “the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown.” • The eye of God watching over you • Good Luck • The four corners of God’s Eyes symbolize: • Earth • Fire • Air • Water
