Inspiration • “An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea” (Buddha)
Goal • spread and create a chain reaction of global poverty awareness throughout our Texas A&M campus and through the student volunteers • motivational trigger
What do you know about poverty? • At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day... TRUE or FALSE TRUE 24,000 • According to UNICEF________children die each day of poverty • How many people entered the 21st Century unable to read a book or even sign their own name? 1 billion 790 million • Approximately _________people in the developing world are still chronically undernourished
Why Guatemala? • 43% of the children under 5 are chronically malnourished • Among the indigenous group which make up 38% of the population, and about 76% live in extreme poverty
Mission • To workwith three specific communities in Central Guatemala to promote sustainable agriculture and nutrition • Summer 1 2010
