Pharmacy Initiative Drug Donation Program • Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation (IPDC) is establishing a Drug Repository for distribution of donated drugs • The distribution will initially focus on the safety net providers Manufacturer Assistance Program (MAP) • Exploring development of model with multiple pharmaceutical companies using same intake • Patient would pay dispensing fee to pharmacist • Pharmaceutical Company to give pharmacy replacement medications

Drug Discount Card • Provided to patients to buy medications at a predetermined price that includes the discounted medication price, pharmacy dispensing fee and administration fee. • This drug list will include medications falling into pricing categories such as $10, $20, $30 etc. Development of Centralized Intake/Determination of Income Eligibility • Intake forms will be available and filled out by patients at site of care; Free Clinic, CHC, RHC etc. • Forms sent to Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation (IDPC) for processing and verification of eligibility level. • The eligibility information will be used for accessing medications through the Manufacturers Assistance Program (MAP) and Drug Discount Program

Accessing Medications Free Clinics • Drug Donation Program • MAPs • Purchase of medications using state appropriated dollars CHCs and RHCs • CHC’s 340B Program • Contracts with Retail Pharmacies • Inhouse Pharmacies • Drug Donation Program (as availability allows) • MAPs • Drug Discount Card Program

Additional Activities of the Pharmacy Identified by the Expert Panel • Education for patients, healthcare providers and pharmacists on the availability of the pharmacy initiative programs • Increased promotion and use of the Provider/Pharmacist Collaborative Agreement • Quality care through patient education and medication review by their pharmacists • Selection of an Oversight Committee to assure the available programs remain appropriate based on the ever changing availability of medications • Use of a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and ongoing Drug Utilization Review to evaluate drug plans for inclusion of appropriate medications for the desired therapeutic outcomes while providing quality, safe and effective care. • Evaluation/data collection to determine not only the number of people accessing medications and number of prescriptions, but also evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the programs.
