Issue Statement The workgroup was formed to address: • Issues concerning the use of Intelligent Mail® Barcodes on Reply Mail. • How to communicate program requirements and timelines.
Desired Results • Identify barriers unique to Reply Mail to transitioning to the Intelligent Mail® Barcode and develop approaches to overcome them. • Provide industry feedback on counting and invoicing procedures to maximize opportunities for participation and efficiency gains. • Develop approaches to communicate the benefits of Intelligent Mail® for Reply Mail to promote widespread usage.

Approach • Review the various business models that use Reply Mail products • Review USPS vision and specifications for Intelligent Mail® Barcode and Reply Mail • Prepare workgroup deliverables • Develop recommendations resulting from the work effort
Results • Identified several areas of opportunity and developed recommendations to overcome the barriers to IMb adoption • Identified areas of opportunity to create more revenue for the USPS and the industry
Opportunities for Improvement • PostNet retirement: Voluntary • Recommend extending transition time • Complex Technical Migration • Inventory Management • Technical specifications support current Origin Confirm program AND optional use of Mailer ID • Short term focus: consistent use of Existing BRMAS • Postal Service/Industry partnership on vision for further automation based on IMb • Online Reply Mailpiece Design Tool. • generates a fully formatted, print ready form (pdf) that would contain all the required elements of a BRM properly located and formatted
Next Steps • Poll Workgroup members to ensure concerns and recommendations have been captured; • Revise as necessary; • Finalize document and submit to MTAC Leadership.
